Data acquisition is a powerful tool for figuring out how to make your car faster, how to adjust for track conditions, and how to improve your skills as a driver. Data acquisition (or "DAQ" for short) doesn't do any of this for you; your engine isn't more powerful because you use it, and there's no magic field around it that turns mediocre drivers into instant champions. Instead, at the most basic level, it helps you remember what happened and where on the course. That's the key to figuring out improvements. DAQ won't tell you what needs to be done, either. You still need to become adept at interpreting the data that you collect and what it means in terms of vehicle setup or improving technique. If you are already knowledgeable, DAQ helps you zero in on problems faster. If you're a novice, DAQ becomes the basis for research or discussions with experts. It helps you understand what is going on so you can build your own knowledge base. Sometimes, it shows you the obvious. Finally, DAQ saves money. Without information, you will spend resources unnecessarily trying to solve problems. Every minute of seat time is expensive when you count all of the money and time it took to get the car out on the track. DAQ helps you use that track time efficiently. |
