Windows Netbooks For customers who do not need to fit their system into their Pocket, we strongly recommend using a Windows netbook. Pretty much any Windows XP or later netbook will work, unless you are using video, in which case you need to make sure the netbook has a CPU at least as fast as a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom. Windows Mobile Devices Your Pocket PC / Smartphone must be based on Windows Mobile 5.0 or later, and it should have a touchscreen. If you are using a Quantum or Quantum Dot, the device must also have WiFi. If you are using a Bluetooth-enabled MaxQData product, then of course your device must have Bluetooth. If you are looking to buy a new Pocket PC with no phone capabilities, you will want to consider the HP iPAQ 110 or HP iPAQ 210 (however, for the price they are charging for those devices, you may as well just buy a Windows 7 netbook). If you are looking for a used Pocket PC, consider the ASUS A626. If you are looking to buy a new Windows Mobile Smartphone to use with your MaxQData system, there are many, many options on the market. We can't list all of them. Look for units that have touchscreens and Windows Mobile 5 or later. We no longer support or recommend earlier versions (Window Mobile 2003 Second Edition, Windows Mobile 2003, Pocket PC 2002, or Pocket PC 2000) because of the lack of satisfactory Bluetooth support, the lack of certain operating system functions, and the lack of Persistent Store memory that survives dead batteries. The software for Windows Mobile 2003 has been frozen at v. 2.8c Ongoing development will target Windows Mobile 5.0 and later as the minimum required platform. Please note that due to wide market acceptance of touchscreen Smartphones, MaxQData is no longer upgrading the non-touchscreen software, and it will not support the Quantum or Quantum Dot. The software works much better on touchscreen devices anyways. Important: If you are using Bluetooth, then the device must permit "Outgoing Bluetooth Serial Port Service" connections. We had a customer report that the Motorola Q 9c, at least the one from Verizon has had this functionality disabled. This customer did find a workaround: see his post here. Windows Phone 7 Windows Phone 7 is not supported. |
