Overview of Operation

After starting, the app displays the Flight screen, and an "Acquiring Location" message is displayed until the iPhone/iPod lock onto a GPS signal. Once a GPS signal is acquired the flight recorder is ready, and driving may be started without further interaction with the application.

The app saves recorded data within Runs; each Run starts when the vehicle exceeds 20MPH and ends when either the vehicle is moving slowly for approximately a minute, or when the main screen is switched away from the Flight screen, or when the app is closed, or when the iPhone is turned off.

Runs are listed in the Results screen. You can enter notes for each run on the Run Details screen. To reach this screen, tap on a run on the Results screen. You can email a run's notes and recorded data (in the form of an MQD file) from the Run Details screen.

Supported Devices & Accessories

For the iPod Touch and first generation iPhone, the use of an external GPS module is required since these devices do not have built-in GPS capabilities. See the MaxQData Quantum section for details.

Due to limitations of the iPhone 3G/3GS built-in GPS module, the data recorded by Flight may suffer from inaccuracy. By using an external high performance GPS module available from MaxQData, high levels of accuracy can be achieved. See the MaxQData Quantum section for details.
