The 3.0a software is now available for download. The big news is that it contains all of the new video features we've been spending so many long hours on in our secret laboratory, mainly:

1. Video capture - Using an inexpensive notebook computer such as an Acer Aspire One or an Eee PC 901, you can now capture multi-camera video simultaneously with your data using inexpensive webcams. This is an extension to our Flight data acquisition software, so it's fully integrated and operates automatically.

2. Video + data analysis - Our Chart software for viewing your data is now video-enabled. Video appears in its own window, synchronized to the data. Play one and the other plays along in sync. You can even view a second video window, for the same flight recording or a different flight recording, so you can compare videos side-by-side.

3. Data overlay generation - Now you can create data overlays for your video without having to buy third-party software. Data overlay generation is supported directly from our Chart software. You can produce overlays with video captured using Flight, or with video captured using a standalone third-party camera.

All of these features can be evaluated for free, though video capture and data overlay generation are at a reduced frame rate. If you already have a camera and just want to enable data overlays, the unlock code is $99. If you want the full meal deal that allows you to capture video and produce data overlays, the unlock code is $149. (introductory pricing through January 31, 2009) Video + data analysis capability is free regardless.

There are a few other surprises in the software, but we risk overloading you with info, so let's just stick to the main point for now: MaxQData now does Video!

Ed,

How does the Video + data analysis work? Could you provide some instruction on how to do this?

Thanks.

"- Video analysis with data: Chart now opens video files along with data files. This feature is free and available in the new 3.0a
software for Windows PCs, downloadable now."

Let's say you've captured video with a third party camera. The video needs to be in ASF, WMV, MPG, or 3GP format (ASF or WMV are preferred). Give it the same name as the MQD file, e.g. for Run000.MQD, rename the video Run000.WMV (if it is WMV format). In Chart, make sure File > Enable video load is checked. Then click File > Load and load Run000.MQD. Run000.WMV will automatically be loaded in a separate window with VCR controls. If you click the Play button in that window, the video will play and the data will scroll along with it. Alternatively, you can use the mouse to scroll through the data and the video will keep up.

More details can be found in the updated User Manual.

If you captured the video with a VeQtr system, then the file name will already be correct and it will be in the preferred ASF format, synchronized to the data.

ok, I can load the video file but how do you decouple the video from the data so that I can manually sync the two?

I can't find the 'file offset lock check box'.

Thanks.

It's the box to the left of the "seconds" counter, the one immediately below the "A)" or "B)" label for the filename.

Uncheck it, then use the controls in the video window to line up the video to the data, then recheck it to lock the two back together.
