Now on the Downloads page: version 2.7b. Two major items for this release:

- import of beacons into the calibration for real-time lap and segment timing is fixed

- New! Cone Map support for autocrossers. While walking the course while running Flight, you can pause over each cone you care about and tap Config > Add beacon. Then, in Chart, there is a new File > Load cones... menu option. This will load the flight recording you recorded while walking the course as a special Cone file. Every "beacon" position now shows as a little orange cone marker on your trackmap, in both full map mode as well as Zoom/Qview. Check it out!

Please see the Release Notes for more details and additional changes in this release.

okay... quick question. I have the MQ200-RT and would like to try to use this new feature in chart.

What are your thoughts in using an extra cheapy bluetooth GPS that I have laying around for walking the course and marking the cones and then switching back to the MQ200-RT fro the runs? What do you foresee that I would need to do to make this work?

Many thanks,

-Dave

That might work. Just don't get a super-cheapo GPS unit, or it may not have good accuracy. I can recommend the Transystem i-Blue 737.

Do the "cone" beacons just get stored as regular beacons in the run files? Can we import/export them in case we have to restart flight many times during the day?

OK, so to clarify - once you have created a "cone" file, there is no need to export the beacons and import them into other files. That's not how it works. Just use "File > Load cones" to load the cone file and that's it. In fact, if you used "File > Load cones" to load your cone file like you should, you would be unable to export the cone beacon marks to begin with.

Cone marks do not get placed into each new flight recording. The cone file is simply used to plot a background under the trackmaps for whatever flight recordings you have loaded in Chart.

A "cone" file is just a regular MQD file which has a whole bunch of beacon timestamps in it, one for each cone you marked. You could load it with "File > Load", but generally you shouldn't do this. Use it only with "File > Load cones". This tells Chart to only use the beacon information from the file and plot cone symbols at the Latitude/Longitude pairs corresponding to each time you clicked "Add beacon".

When you use "File > Load cones" to load a cone file, you can't Export them, because the cone file does not appear as the A or B file.

You can still use "File > Load" to load a cone file. You will see a trackmap with beacon "X" marks at each cone when you do it this way, rather than orange cone marks. You might want to do this if you need to delete some of the cones, for example if you accidentally marked a cone where there was none. But once you have edited the beacons, you just unload the file and reload it using "File > Load cones". Do not use Beacon Export. You may get an incomplete set of beacons because BeaconsPerLap can't be greater than 10 and you might have many more than 10 cones marked.

Sorry about the confusion. It became very obvious when I actually tried to do it. Smile

Feature Request: Ability to load multiple cones files at once -- or merge them.

thanks
