Yes, we've finally developed what you all have been asking for: a 20 Hz GPS module using inertial accelerometers for improved accuracy. We call it the MQGPS-Quantum(tm). There's a lot of value packed into this little module:

- 3-axis inertial accelerometer combined with a high performance GPS chipset for detailed transients and more accurate trackmaps

- Works as either a Bluetooth GPS module *or* as a standalone datalogger with 1 GB (!) internal memory (good for up to 120 hours of recording at 20 Hz)

- Works with the VeQtr(tm) video capture system

- Works as a USB Memory Stick for easy data transfer

- Internal rechargeable battery provides 8-10 hours of operation

- Supported by the standard MaxQData software (version 3.1a or later)

- Also produces standard NMEA output at 20 Hz for special applications

The price, only $499, sets a new standard for value in GPS-based data acquisition systems.

Please check it out here: http://www.maxqdata.com/Quantum.htm

We think that the MQGPS-Quantum is such a leap forward from the old MQGPS-HiDef that we've decided to replace the MQGPS-HiDef altogether with it. We're also bringing back the MQGPS-5Hz for customers on a budget who are looking for good value in a GPS data acquisition system.

Sweet!

How does the accuracy compare to the HiDef's < 2.5m? What GPS chip does it use?

Also, could we see some sample flight recordings with 20 Hz GPS & inertial accelerometer data for comparison?

I ordered mine as soon as they popped up on the product page. I'm very excited about the 2009 racing season. Any idea when they will start shipping?

EDIT: USPS came by my house today with a package. Ed, quit reading my mind! Smile

Ed,
At SSSCC we race on a banked oval circle track. I was looking at the GtechPro, which is accelerometer based, and they specifically said it needs to operate on level surfaces.
Will the accelerometers be able to adjust for the 8+ bank of the track or will the lateral forces be skewed?

I have some files if you want to look at them. Here at 3 different cars I was collecting on today.

Brian, we expect that the MQGPS-Quantum will give excellent results even on turns with significant banking. Unlike the G-Tech Pro, the MQGPS-Quantum uses both GPS and accelerometer information, each correcting the other, to provide accurate data.

Hi Mike,
Looks great! It sounds like have the same issue as Bert with the sound. You have sound and then cuts out? Are you having sound issues? Please let us know if you are and when they are resolved if so. Another friend and myself are waiting to pull the trigger on MaxQ systems as soon as things are fully debugged and working. I run with Bert and can't wait to have a system as well.

Thanks,
Ralph-

ralph,

your right it looks like the web cams mic and the "great" sound logic they have ( cut out back ground noise and so on) cuts out the car, if you talk its just fine, but i dont talk to myself driving. so i talked to kevin d. tonight and i will get a mic from radio shack and use it instead, i will post results once i have it, that is what he recommended

I know Bert tried at least one other Mic and still had issues. I will call him and have him chime in with the mics he has tried.

Thanks,
Ralph-

ok, update

yesterday at lunch went to radio s. got a clip on type mic
last night i tried, only shortly was a long day at work, no luck

its either me or it does not help, still can hear all the conversation, the ping noise when you turn the car on, me talking but not the car, i wonder if the vette is just to deep in sound for those mics to pick them up

i know it can work, see video attached my friend sound is just fine

I used a Samson Q1U dynamic USB mic at Saturday's autocross. You can see and listen to a sample here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCEDtzk5yOc

I had to use the "audio workaround registry hack" to get this to work. This causes some other problems with the system so I hope they fix it soon.
